Is there a bee in my netbook?!

Hi Everyone :)

Pleeeeese help me!

Ok, so I know it isn't a bee :rotfl: but it does sound like one!!

I have an Acer Aspire One netbook. About 10 months old. Used for browsing etc. Runs windows 7, browse with Firefox, Panda AntiVirus. It's sat on my desk, so is constantly plugged into the mains. My internet is a wireless connection.

It's started to make a really loud buzzing noise every now and then. Just like a bee flying around - ie, up and down like a bee or a blue bottle against the window. It's definitely the netbook, because the sound registers when I bring up the volume control. I'd say it lasts 5 to 6 seconds. And it's really, really loud!

It's always when I'm on the interwebby thing, but then, that's all I use the netbook for, so it would be! First thought was a pop up had opened in the background, but nope. Then thought maybe interference from something else, because there's the work laptop, 2 mobiles and a cordless landline nearby, but nothing seems to be active when it buzzes.

Muting it does seem to work - muting it while the buzz is happening cuts it off mid buzz.

Anyone got any ideas please?

I'm pretty sure it will be a bee.

It happened to me back in 99.
  • Surely if there was no bee in it it would be a Netook :rotfl: Sorry no sensible suggestions except it could be a loose speaker cable (cale)

Acer Aspire fans can be quite noisy. I know mine was. Is it that which is making the buzzing noise?

I installed acer_fan.pl and it fixed the problem. That's on linux though. There will be some equivalent for windows I'm sure.

it may be an advert on one of the pages...

[STRIKE]seen [/STRIKE] heard one other day with a bee on down the left hand side..

cant remember where it was now tho, maybe ebay or somehwhere..

cant see it being internal if muting it silences it..

This makes sense. My first assumption was that it was a pop up, so it's that sort of noise. And I was in eBay. Thank you! I'll stop worrying that it's some sort of internal self-destruct set to go off the day after it's warranty expires :D

    lol!!!

If you mute the speakers and you still hear a buzz it would probably be a short (or the beginning of one) in the power block,

My HP Laptop has a terrible buzzing sound, HP replaced the power block and the noise went away!

Nope, I mute it and it stops instantly, so I don't think it's a cable or anything internal like that. I use Skype too, without any problems at all.

I've currently got another tab open and am going through everything I looked at on eBay earlier to see if the bee advert mentioned earlier pops up :rotfl:

You can buy a cooling pad that might stop the fan coming on and nice and quite laptop. Search google for laptop cooling.
