Piece of rope and a towbar???

No, seriously, wouldnt you be better buyer collect? Or failing that, have a look in the completed items and see if anyone has shipped a piano before, they may have a price on there or you could drop them an email and ask:)

hmm, just had a look through ebay for you and most seem to be pick up only, those that have a price range from £150 - £250, but are mostly dealers so probably have their own van.

This auction is a private seller thoguh and says delivery can be arranged, maybe worth dropping an email?

I think you might have problems here as many carriers limit the maximum weight on their cheap delivery services to 30kg so their drivers don't suffer too much. Oversize/overweight items always seem to cost much more as the carrier needs to send a lorry with a tail lift. These sort of items seem to be quoted individually so I would phone a few carriers or look up freight forwarders who mainly deal with import/export and are used to heavy shipments. You might need to be sitting down when they quote prices!
  • I think you'd need a specialist carrier and I don't imagine they come cheap.

    With difficulty...

Find out how much a local 'man with a white van' would cost for the day - if nothing else, it'll give you a starting point to work from.

Not sure if the piano'd survive the journey though...:p

I had a quick google and there are some companies who specialise in moving pianos, again, asking for a quick quote might prove informative. They'd also probably take more care with it than, say, chucking it in the back of a DHS logistics van. [Sorry, I've assumed you live in the South of England there].
  • I used to work for a music shop that sold pianos. To get them to their destination in one piece, you need to wrap them well (we had special covers that were quilted and about the thickness of a winter duvet) and have a van you can strap them into so they don't rattle round the back - oh, and a driver who doesn't go round corners too quick.

Try some of the house removal companies, but be prepared to have to wrap it yourself.

A piano requires specialist removing but this is not a conventional piano though is it? I assume it's an electronic keyboard with removable legs as it is only 150 x 30 x 50cm.

I'd certainly recommend you do go to the trouble of finding a shipper.

Trying to buy heavy objects where most sellers are too lazy to go to the trouble of shipping (and I'm not talking about piano sized objects :) ) is rather depressing because:

    a) Not everyone can afford the time to drive half way across the country to pick something up (and even if they can the cost might make the purchase uneconomic).

    b) Items from those sellers who have gone to the trouble to find out about shipping sell at a premium, sometimes quite a substantial one.
  • Abby antiques seams to be the one reccomended by most of the Antique traders on ebay
