Question - Gas V Electric?

Hello Everybody,
My first post.
Can anyone tell me, is it cheaper to cook and heat your home by Gas or Electric?
Also, now that I have a new boiler, with timer, wil it be cheaper to have the heating coming on and going off about 4 times during the evening, or is it better to leave it on until it's time to turn it off, eg bed time?

As a rule of thumb using electricity is around 4 times more expensive than gas.

Its wasting money to run your heating when you are out, unless there is a danger of freezing, in which case you would run it at a very low level.

if you have a new system, it will be fitted with a room 'stat and TRV's on the individual rads, these will (if correctly set) control the temp during the evening (presuming the programmer is set to 'on' during the evening period).
The longer your boiler is firing, the more gas it consumes and the more it will cost. There's no magic formula.
