Child savings Income support clarification please?

Is there anyone who can clarify what happens to Income support claims for a 2 parent family not married with savings of £4000 and one child with savings of £5000?

One person says Child savings does not count unless its over £3000 then another says its does count if it takes household savings over £6000! There are so many conflicting answers about I dont know whats correct!

I read that a child savings over £3000 means "You will not get an allowance for that child!" What does this mean? How would this affect Income Support?

So to clarify:-
Couple not married with savings of £4000
Child with savings of £5000
Claiming IS

Any help would be much appreciated.

Thanks

On what grounds are you claiming IS?

I'm not I work for a living (just)

Does this matter? If so I will find out but I'm sure they have been on it for a few months now.

Most (but not all) IS or JSA cases where there are kids do not include anything for the kids nowadays. Therefore the kids savings or income doesn't matter as the IS/JSA award doesn't include an allowance for the kid.

The money for the kids comes from Child tax Credits instead and follows the HMRC rules that apply.

For those few cases where kids are included in an Is/JSA award, if the kid had savings of £3000 or more, the allowance for that kid would not be paid. The kids capital would not be added to the parents capital though.

If money had been moved to a kids account to gain extra benefit, this might be treated as either fraud or deprivation of capital

I can't tell you any more than real1341 has. From the amount they get they are only getting the couple rate and not for any children. The childrens' income would come from child benefit and child tax credits so childrens' savings makes no difference to this.
I'll get you, my pretty, and your little dog too!
