Windows SP2

I've been delaying installing this as I know people have had problems. Any views? My pcs running fine at the moment. Are there problems with conflicting firewalls etc? I'm running Norton Internet Security and Sygate Firewall. Should I go for it?
Thanks

TBH you shouldnt be using two firewalls at the same time. I have no problems with SP2 on 4 computers we have. But I dont use the in built firewall that MS provide even though its better than the previous version, as you may be aware NIS is quite configurable.

  • Thanks Shrek do you mean I shouldn't use Norton and Sygate together as Norton has its own firewall and how do I disable Windows SP2 Firewall. I've got a feeling that the reason I can't get Mozilla to work has to do with it being blocked though I've tried disabling Sygate and it made no difference.
    Thanks again

I have tried SP2 and IMO it slowed down my Pc's and from all that I have read I have yet to be convinced to install it again. You are not missing a lot tbh.

Its easy to disable XP firewall in control panel/security centre/windows firewall [OFF] in SP2

  • Thanks, I'm very wary about installing it and I've got all these updates piling up. Can't find security centre in control panel. Is that just on SP2?
    Thanks again

Hi yes sorry its part of sp2.

Can't remember or not if you can uninstall sp2 in control panel. if you don't like it however I am sure you can either make a backup using Norton ghost if you have it or alternatively make a system restore point in start/system tools/system restore then create a restore point bare in mind the date (as it regularly creates restore points automatically) and that if you install program after the retore point and subsequently go back to pre-sp2 you may not get the program you installed since to work.

You can switch off XP firewall by going to Control Panel, Network Connections, then under the General Tabs left hand side, Firewall settings can be altered by clicking the third link.
    Hope that helps

You can get a free SP2 CD from the microsoft site (free delivery from US) - it doesn't have the glitches that the download has

you can unistall it easy enough once installed, think it was in add & remove programs, but i unistalled it no probs, i then set it to hide this update at the update site and just continued to install all other updates.
