Parking Eye issued fine for attending book signing

Hi all,

I recently attended a signing at Asda Kingswood in Hull. (The actual carpark is on a retail outlet). Queued for 4 hours. A week later we received a parking fine of £80 addressed to my partner stating he over stayed his welcome. (he wasnt driving the car) They have a 3 hour limit I was there for 4 hours. I've been reading other posts and the general feeling I get is to just ignore this fine but it threatens if I dont pay within the next 6 days that it will go up up to £110. Not sure what to do.

I've looked at the parking eye website and they use the ANPR system. And it has the British Parking Approved logo on as though they are backed by them.

I've also read the template on here to either request a copy of their evidence and to challenge it because its addressed to my partner but he wasn't actually driving. It says on here to send a letter in and challenge it. Do I do this or ignore it. Has anybody ever had any dealings with fines from the parking eye system??

Many thanks,

Amy

  • It states on the letter to pay you PCN is that parking charge notice?? Is this a valid fine or another money making scam for using private land?
  • money making scam. Ignore them . and all the threatening letters that will come after.

  • Generally I'd just ignore it, the only people who can enforce a fine is the local authority or police!

Ditto. Just ignore. They will almost certainly send further threatening letters. Make sure you ignore those too, no matter how scary they try to make them sound. :)
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.
  • Thanks everyone, I shall just ignore

I would totally ignore the letter but would be tempted to send a strongly worded letter to Asda head office and the local press. There is nothing as good as bad publicity.

Never associate with idiots on their own level, because, being an intelligent man, you'll try to deal with them on their level - and on their level they'll beat you every time.

Parking eye are one of the easier ones to ignore and normally give up quite quickly once they know their not getting a response. Sit tight and ignore.
  • Parking Eye do not do court if if you goad them as I did. They have NEVER taken anyone to court.
Still waiting for Parking Eye to send the court summons! Make my day!
  • I've tried my hardest to get a scam ticket but failed. I even parked in a max 1 hour stay supermarket car park all day a few times and still never got one!
  • I wasn't aware that tickets issued by these parking companies at Supermarket car parks, etc were unenforceable, but will bear it in mind if it does happen to me.

As for the OP's ticket, if it is ok to ignore it (as others advice) then do that - however, it may also be worth writing to Asda (as also suggested) as it was an event at their store, and you were parked in their car park - they may be able to get it sorted due to those circumstances before any more letters are sent to you.

However, I can understand why some out of town Supermarkets do try and enforce time limits, as you would probably find their car parks full of 'Park and Riders' at peak times, with fewer spaces left for genuine customers.
