    Thanks to those replying, seems unfair when it's something I have to (legally) notify them of, not just a change on a whim - I will be reading the smallprint more closely next time and won't be using Swinton again.

    As has been posted, the charge is normal, BUT if you have nothing left of value, why not just forget about your policy, don't inform them of your change of circs and just let the policy run out without paying for the alteration.
