imported storage heater advice please - how to use?

Hi, I have just moved into a new property and it has storage heaters that I am told were imported. I have no idea how to use them! neither do my landlord or the electrician or storageheater.co.uk :( I have had storage heaters before but they just have "input" and "output" switches. This one has a "comfort" switch. The comfort switch effects its operation somehow but I am not sure how. like the input and output buttons it is numbered 1-3. I have been burnt by using heaters incorrectly before resulting in massive electricity bills so I am keen to know how to use this one as economically and effectively as I can. (the control buttons are on the right hand side of the heater as you look at it) The only model number I can find is THS 010. I have taken pictures of it but this forum wont let me add them. There is also a partially scratched off label on the front says "VIVIER"

Can any one help me please?

There are sveral variables which wee can't possibly know in order for you to get the best use from your storgae heaters. But, as a first step, a sort of default method of use for this time of the year I would

    - An hour before bed, set output to zero, and input to midway (i.e. 5, if scale is zero to 10)

This should charge up the heaters with little heat loss during the night.

    - when you get home from work - say about 6pm, if the house is too cold, set the output to 8 say.

This will start to release the heat stored via convection, while hopefully saving some heat for later on in the evening should it get too cold.

    - if it's cold late in the evening, set output to full.

    Go back to the beginning.

You have to adjust that method depending on your experience of how it works. If there's not enough heat left at the end of the evening, then set the input higher (to charge it up with more heat).

After a few days, it should all be obvious.

Edit ... Here's something about the 'comfort' control on Berry Storage heaters (could be he same as yours, since he comfort switch is on the rhs ... (hope it makes more sense to you than it does to me!)

In addition to the usual output
and input controls on the top of
the heater Berry heaters have a
comfort level switch on the lower
right-hand side of the casing. The
heater can be used as either a
manual or as an automatic model.
    Automatic operation is usually
the most economical to run. With
the input control set to maximum
    adjust the comfort control daily
until you find a suitable level of
    warmth. Leave the output control
at minimum unless you need more
heat during the day. To operate the
    heater manually set the comfort
    control to maximum and adjust
the setting of the input control
    according to the weather. Leave
    the output control on minimum
unless you need more heat during
    the day.
  • thank you. Yes, that comfort control advice from Berry makes no sense to me either....It makes the button sound a bit pointless. How does it do anything different to the input and output?! All I know is that the heater does not work at all if the comfort button is off altogether. I know how to use standard input/out controls as have had to live with storage heaters before. These ones are confusing me.
