Hotels in Bangkok

I was just wondering if anybody could recommend a couple of good hotels in Bangkok for a couple of one night stops.

In March I am going for a 7 night holiday in Koh Samui and instead of doing all the travelling in one day we are looking at an overnight stop in Bangkok close to the airport before travelling onto Koh Samui the following day.

I've had a look myself but all the hotels seem pretty much the same so i'm just wondering if anybody has any good experiences of any hotels close to the airport.

Also on the way home we are looking at doing the same and staying in Bangkok for a night but this time staying more closer to the centre of Bangkok in order to do some shopping and sightseeing.

Any info would be gratefully appreciated.

We stayed at Citadines hotel, on Sukhumvit Soi 8 for 5 nights in early 2009. Its near Nana Sky train stop. Was perfect for us. Close to sky train so we could get about easily. A couple of streets away from the bars etc, but not too close! On Soi 8 was a couple of restaurants, internet cafe, pub and a 7/11.

Couldnt fault the room. Modern, small kitchenette. Dining/living area and bedroom, separated by sliding partitian wall and a tv that slid along the wall so could be in living room or bedroom. I think it was around £40/nt including breakfast, which was asian style, but very nice.

Its a budget accommodation and should be viewed as such. Its had a few mixed reviews, but We enjoyed every minute though. We got bungalow 1 which was on the beach front, so stepped out onto the beach each morning. Its a out of the way, not particularly close to the action. There are a few bars near by though. Pier is nearby if you want to take a trip to Koh Phangan for the full moon party or just for a nice day out (diving and snorkling is better over there).

We did our PADI open water with the dive school based on site and cant recommend them highly enough. If you do look at this one, make sure you request a bungalow near the water, the road at the back is very noisy and if you have a room backing onto it (we did on our first night) you wont get a wink of sleep.

We stayed at the Chatrium Suites in february. Although it's not in the centre, it's on the Chaophraya river and has a taxi boat that takes you to the Skytrain/taxi boat pier. We loved it, very modern, great pool, fantastic breakfast and comfiest beds ever! We liked the tranquility of the location and the fab views from the River View Suites. Not sure of your budget but from memory it was under £100 per night and much cheaper than hotels of the same quality.

near BST SUKHUMVIT
walking distance from soi cowboy
fantastic breakfast
pool/gym opened at 0600 great start to the day
consider hiring a private guide/driver to make most of your short time to see sites

we got a great deal with pullman king power back in 2008, but I notice they have slipped right down the list from the top 5 to number 16 on tripadvisor, I'm guessing the deals aren't as good anymore!
I thought the swimming pool was great and always very quiet, esp. compared to the one at traders in kuala lumpur.

Dream hotel (blue rooms) are good... but i normally stay in Sathorn Grace Serviced Residence - Just left on the 11th.

I got upgraded this time but even their standard room is very very good for the money.

Yes the hotel is not in the best location (business area) but taxis are cheap and the area is very quite at night.

we stayed at the majestic grand in bangkok this year great location near to nana plaza sukhumvit rd so definatly not boring are lots of shops bars and nighlife within a few mins walk
plus 2 mins walk to the skytrain so good location hotel was really quiet despite being in a lively area and we had the pool to ourselves
room was really nice big and spacious with floor to ceiling windows ect


also stayed at the amari atrium in bangkok but that was a few years ago but agian a nice hotel and central location

The prices for the Pullman have risen, but there are still deals available - particularly when the Accor sales are on.

We go there twice a year and will be arriving on Xmas day, sure, it is costing more than the prices they charged just after they opened, but it is still good value (particularly the exec floor with lounge access).
