*breaking news* house prices to rise 16%!

I just read the latest MSE news about house prices rising 16% by 2014 and was surprised to learn that this year they will have risen by 7% compared to the start of the year. I suppose it's a good idea to buy now in that case, if you can, I always say that property always goes up eventually so better to try and get on that ladder sooner rather than later.

Yeah I heard there are still no checks on whether people can afford mortgages still.

"was surprised to learn that this year they will have risen by 7%"

that should be "was surprised to learn that this year they MAY have risen by 7%. The article is pretty flawed and is unlikely to happen IMO.

flawed article, prices always rise by 10% each year.

I would love to get on the property ladder. In fact my mortgage payments would be less than my rent!

However if you only have a 10% deposit then interest rates are 6% I guess I have to keep saving until I reach £40k which is what they suggest FTB should be starting off with!

Here's to dreaming of winning the lottery.......

Can the houses just make up their minds please so I can decide whether to buy or not!

For confirmation: No, I'm not a 40 year old woman, I'm a 26 year old bloke!

This probably indicates that either a) The people writing the articles are giving their view with a hidden agenda or b) That nobody has a clue what they are talking about.

Beware headline statistics. A couple of articles in last Saturday's FT suggested the following:

Large and desirable houses in prime areas will rise in value quite significantly by 2015, run of the mill houses in average areas will grow in value but by a very small amount and flats will fall in value.

It suggested that very few buyers will be under 40 years of age, that people would rent and save until that age for a significant deposit and then buy a "house for life". I.e. there would no longer be a "property ladder"

    Makes sense to me.

If it's your house for life and you can afford it then buy it now. If it's not then don't.
