upgrading router

Hi. I want to upgrade my router because the standard issue is not very good. I was wondering if I bought a BT home hub would it still work? My internet provider is TalkTalk.
Thanks, any reply is grateful.

do you need something specifically from the BT home hub?

cause if you only need the router (ie the wireless and wired bit) then this, this or this will suit you perfectly. (just choose the type of ADSL you have)

BT HUbs are usually locked to BT as the provider, (depending on the version), they can be tricked into accepting other providers, but they will automatically upgrade the firmware without your permision etc. Changing some settings in them can be difficult with other providers. Unless you know what you are doing, suggest you avoid.

similar to what? a BT home hub? or the ones I showed you.

what specs are you looking for? wireless N (all I sugested have N), or do you want gigabit ethernet like the BT homehub has, but the ones I suggested only have 100Mbit ethernet, (you will only need gigabit if you do home network file sharing or use a NAS, as there would be no effect on your nternet speeds.

What exactly do you think the new one will be able to do that the old one won't? It can't magically improve the line nor can it magically make things download faster. The former is controlled by the distance from the exchange and the quality of the line and the latter is the quality of your internet provider. Its Talktalk so enough said really.
