Halifax share builder or other options

Hi I currently have £1700 invested in zopa but recently the rates have dropped and I an not willing to lend out at the current rates, I bank with Halifax and was thinking about filtering my money from paid loans in to Halifax share builder which would be :£50 to £100 per month, I know I can only buy shares at certain times each month and like the £1.50 commotion fee, I was wondering can I sell them at any time if the month or only on a selected day like buying them?

I understand the risk of buying shares which I am willing to take but are there any alternative?

Regards Keith

Halifax share builder is OK but one bug bear for me is it gives you fractions of a share so you can hold 350.00164545 of a share!

You can sell whenever you like all or part of the shares you hold.

It may also be better to do this as part of a shares ISA (also available on Halifax) as the fees are the same but any profit is protected from tax.
I started with nothing and I am proud to say I still have most of it left.

But they do charge a monthly fee for the stocks and shares ISA (though not the funds-only ISA). Interactive Investor do much the same thing (run by Halifax) without the monthly fee.

I think the ISA is the same conditions as normal trading and the same prices just in a self select ISA wrapper. It says nothing about charges on their site.

I don't have one most of my shares are AIM which cannot be put in an ISA.

  • I have one as my first jump into share purchases and i like it, very easy to use.
    Aug 24 - Mortgage Balance £242,040.19
    Credit Card - £8,141.63 + £4,209.83
Goals: Mortgage Free by 2035, Give up full time work once Mortgage Free, Ensure I have a pension income of £20k per year from 2035

  • I would recommend iii.co.uk, £1.50 for advance trades as well and VERY easy to use and user friendly platform. Also can buy into funds etc in an ISA.

And you can buy funds by monthly payments without being subject to the normal minimum piece.
