Coats: Do you buy a size up?

id buy most clothing online apart from trousers or coats. i always judge jackets by the length of sleeve and shoulder ratio. im a size 6 so most coats are big on me anyway, regardless of that i just think each shops differs ie when i buy a coat from gap they are usually very roomy compared to topshop etc. if anything at least you can send it back if it doesnt fit0

Correct SizeIt depends on what you're comfortable with, I know my mum is a size 10 but she buys size 12 coats because she likes to have a couple of layers underneath and even with layers underneath she likes a snug fit rather than a tight fit..
I myself haven't brought a coat from ASOS so I don't know whether they come up small like Jane Norman stuff or big like River Island or Republic (for me it seems to be that way anyway).. I'd buy it in my usual size because I'm comfortable with a tight fit and would only wear a thin cardigan underneath. I don't think either would be a waste of money, just go with what you're comfortable with.0 -
Well, I bought the coat and its arriving on next-day-delivery some time today, I did next-day as I used a discount code and am praying it fits or its straight back and exchanged ASAP! Its sooo cold out there at the moment and I'm otherwise still wearing a very scrawny summer jacket still!
Am most worried about it being too tight across the back- fingers crossed! My clothes aren't that bulky which is why I bought the correct size but am now thinking I should have gone up a size...0 -
Well, you were all right! I needed the next size up
I have to return the coat, yes will get a refund but from what I see, not in enough time to exchange as I used the Grazia code which runs out monday. By the time they refund it will be a week on monday, way too late.
Unless they have fantastic customer services (so far not had any luck with them, late orders, not reading my emails and replying to questions- just sending automated replies) so not holding out much hope. Guess it was too good to be true
Thanks for your help- just wish I'd had posted it earlier so I could have used it when I ordered!!0 -
If it's from ASOS go up a size to wear an extra layer, ASOS runs a bit small I find. Is it ASOS own brand? I haven't had many good experiences with the quality of ASOS own brand products. Definitely get an NUS number to get 20% offLiving cheap in central London :rotfl:0

Thanks- its on its way back. So sad it doesn't fit, its so cold here and I am still in my summer coat- really wanted to be able to wear this as its freezing outside! I doubt they will have the size I want in when I am able to reorder when the refund has come back.
I don't have an NUS, if I did I'd have used it too but I do have the Grazia code which was 20% off. However it wont apply once I have been refunded.0 -

Correct Sizewhy don't you just exchange for the next size up? then you wouldn't loose the discount from the code?x0

One Size UpIt depends on the shop you buy it from, but generally a size up. If its winter u will want to wear layers and this could impact on how it fits. Coats tend t be baggy anyway.0
