whilst i would not accept no proper fixings,, speaking of foam only windows falling out is way off the mark. as is cutting the foam.
    that foam sets like concrete.

Not the expanding foam that I've used certainly isn't. It's not even UV stable!

There maybe different varieties but most isn't up to the job and Building controls wouldn't pass it.

There are methods of fitting windows using cleats which bring the fitting location further into the brickwork. They are screwed to the uPVC window at right angles to the window line and then screws can be put through them into the brickwork. This does mean chopping away some plaster and removing the window board and will affect the decoration but can be used where fitting is difficult. It's what I intend using as it will make fitting into no fines concrete much easier. I have to redecorate anyway so it's not a problem.
  • Should really be using some type of mechanical fixings there are many types now so there should be no reason why they should not find a suitable product. There are expanding foam adhesives designed for fixing doors and windows, so check that they are not using one of these. Most PU foams are only suitable for gap filling not for use as structrial adhesives. However, many people use PU foam initially it works well windows are set solid it would be easier to smash the window then cut it out but would you like to risk walking under one of these units after a good few years of weather errosion of the PU foam.
  • I see big problems in the future with that expanding form ..

I'm into old cars and have seen it in them..in places turn to dust.

i also have a 30 year old boat where its also turned to dust.

Ive seen a lot of double glassing outfits using it as the only fix ..

Those same companies wont be around to honour any warranties ..when it all goes t*ts up .

    good luck !

    all the best.markj
