Garage Didnt repair Car......

Hi,

Back in april I bought a car, from the day I bought it It has had starting problems, I drove it off the fore court to a petrol station and had trouble starting it. I had a months free warranty on the vehicle, so informed the garage and they booked it in to be looked at. It was a few days in the meantime the fog light had also come away and was hanging under the car, I also told them about this. I took it in and collected it the next day and they said they found no fault with the car and repaired the fog light. A few days later (as the problem was intermitent) it wouldnt start so I popped the bonnet (as men do and looked) to see if I could think of anything I could do. I then noticed my fog light hadnt been fixed but had been coiled up and placed on the bonnett!! To say I was annoyed was an understatement. It went back into the garage where this time they actually fixed the light but still said the car had no problems starting. I took it back to them again with same faulot and they still claimed nothing was wrong with my vehicle.

Eventually the car would only start if it was bump started! By this time I am out of the warranty period and I think the garage were trying to get me out of the warranty period to release them of responsibility. 3 weeks ago I took my car to a mechanic that has always done work on my cars. The total cost of repairs have come to £443, and the car is running good now. My mechanic said that fuses had been removed which stopped the car showing up faults, which he believes the garage I bought the car from have done so that they have not got to repair it.

I think the garage I bought the car from should be paying my bill or at least most of it. Where do I stand in trying to get them accept responsibility for I problem I brought to their attention during the warranty period of the vehicle. Any help and advice is going to be very much appreciated!!

Jonathan

You have left it all a bit late now it is over 6 months go since you bought the car, therefore it will be hard to argue/prove the faults were present when you bought the car.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing and I personally don't think you will get very far.

Need to nail these problems asap after buying and if you are not happy get a second opinion but never get someone else to repair and expect the selling garage to cough up for those repairs, the seller must be given the opportunity to repair it.

They had at least 4 opportunities to repair the car when I took it to them........

how did you not notice that the fog light wasnt attached after they fixed it?

if i was getting the fog light fixed i would probably at least look at the foglight to see if it was attached to the bumper after i picked it up.

Anyway - if the problems were happening as soon as you drove it away you really should have not accepted their response at the time, taken it to your garage for an opinion and then told the garage what yours said.

Sorry, but it hink it is too late now. best bet is to warn others of the garage and their underhand tactics
  • Not sure how taking a fuse out wil lstop a car showing up problems...?

What did your machanic do for £443...? Apart from replace a fuse?

Also, with intermittent problems its hard to find them.

Taking out fuses can stop warning lights from lighting up, certain circuits had also been bypassed by being rewired.

Obviously the mechanic done more than just replace a fuse, he worked on it for around 2 weeks to actually find the fault and not do what these underhanded lazy mechanics done and cant be bothered to fault find. With todays cars fault finding is a bit easier with diagnostic machines, as it will give you answers, e.g the diagnostic test showed 7 faults with my car, but using fault finding and process of emlimination it was only 2 faults, one of which was one of the injectors.

The problem with my car wasn't quiter intermittent, it happened every morning, and after the car had been left for about 8 hours, initially, then it would happen almost everytime the car was started.

Try the small claims court and trading standards.

  • What's that old phrase? Buyer beware? I once got done over by the local Nissan main dealer on a demonstrator. Turned out to have been seriously clocked. Was showing 18k, but another dealer said it had been put through the system for a 75k service, and the wear on it was just a bit to much.

Took Trading Standards and the Small Claims Court to get £700 back on a £5000 spend. Seems everyone is at it.
