Rubbish double glazing in rented property.

My DH & I currently rent a house for £600 a month. We've lived in it for over a year now. Last winter we noticed that the double glazing in some of the rooms was pretty crap, mainly in my toddlers room. This year it seems considerably worse. If its windy you can literally feel the wind whistling in through the window. And the whole thing is full of condensation in the morning. We're also having to put the heating on considerably more than I would want to because of how cold his room is. Would it be unreasonable to ask the landlords to replace the window?

You can but ask. I doubt you'll have any luck though as a) it will be expensive and b) you have the option to leave and LL can get in a new tenant.
I'm in a similar boat but just accept in the winter the heating will be on a lot as I will only be here for 18 months or so.0 -
I'm pretty sure they'll do it, but I dont know if it seems cheeky. We had an issue with our front door not long after we moved in (they're was a point at the bottom where it wasnt meeting properly so there was a draft coming through the whole house) & they replaced it more or less immediately.COMP WINS FOR HUBBY & I SINCE SEPTEMBER:2 £50 DOMINOS VOUCHERS, 13 PAIRS OF FOOTBALL TICKETS, MICROSOFT HOME EDTN, 2 PAIRS OF ALTON TOWERS TICKETS, 1 CASE OF PERCY PIGS, 1 PAIR OF LEATHER LADIES GLOVES, 4 COLLECTION 2000 PRODUCTS, PLAYSTATION 3 WITH FIFA 12, 5* HOTEL STAY IN LONDON, SEASON 6 OF SUPERNATURAL DVD, PERFECT PIZZA VOUCHER0

It would be something i'd normally not mention, but its our intention to make this a long term let. We're not planning on moving for at least 3 years.COMP WINS FOR HUBBY & I SINCE SEPTEMBER:2 £50 DOMINOS VOUCHERS, 13 PAIRS OF FOOTBALL TICKETS, MICROSOFT HOME EDTN, 2 PAIRS OF ALTON TOWERS TICKETS, 1 CASE OF PERCY PIGS, 1 PAIR OF LEATHER LADIES GLOVES, 4 COLLECTION 2000 PRODUCTS, PLAYSTATION 3 WITH FIFA 12, 5* HOTEL STAY IN LONDON, SEASON 6 OF SUPERNATURAL DVD, PERFECT PIZZA VOUCHER0

Speak to the landlord, but do not demand anything. If you keep it friendly it sounds like they may help if they want to keep you as a long term tenant.0

Be prepared to move to a better place then.
It's no good moaning about something if in reality you really want to stay there. If you see what I mean.0 -
Double glazing- what luxury! I have ancient, rattly single glazed sash windows and spent most of last winter wearing attractive thermal undies, thick pjs and a woolly hat round the flat. I like the property enough to put up with it though.
Our village family GP when I was growing up refused to have central heating installed in his house as he insisted it was unhealthy, and that kids were better off well wrapped up in fresh air. They are an EYESORES!!!!0 -
We had a hellish winter before last in rented - modern house with PVCu double glazing - and we were so glad to return to our own Edwardian home with single glazed sash windows (though we did renovate them) with much lower heating bills *and* being warm into the bargain.
Sadly we've since had to move and it wasn't possible to get somewhere with original windows. One day when we've got more urgent stuff done I would really like to get rid of the replacement which really spoils the look of the place and get something more appropriate (next door's have had some good sash double glazing put in - smaller house but they will get more for it than we bought this for now they are selling)0
