Scottoish Power Rep. BG Took money out of my Bank

Options
I am quite cross:mad:very to be trueful

I have just been looking at my online bank statement and after SP have caused me a fair amount of grief regarding changing suppliers when I requested clearly that I did not wish to change at this present time. I now see they must have given BG MY BANK DETAILS AND THEY HAVE TAKEN OVER 100 POUNDS OUT MY ACCOUNT AND I AM NOT THERE CUSTOMER:eek:. I have managed to phone BR to try and get my money back and request somebody phones me back in office hours with a full explanation about this... it took over half an hour to get a positive response. My Bank said a direct debit has been set up for this to be paid out We have not obvuiosly set up any DD account for BG..Dianne

I posted this on the old thread 'in parts' last night... in the wrong place really...sorry about that..

First - speak to your bank. Tell them that you were never advsied about the DD and they will reimburse you under teh DD guarentee.

Second, I doubt SP would give out your bank details to anyone, let alone a competitor. Is there any other way BG could have your details.

Who is your original supplier (if you didn't want to change to SP and aren't with BG)?
  • I concur, I cannot imagine a scenario where a supplier would divulge bank details. DPA is usually something companies are afraid of, so unless someone came into some money and didn't care about their job and wanted to damage the company they won't have given the bank details to anyone.

Thanks . I phoned the 24 hours Bank last night and was told I need to phone them this morning to correct this, which I did and I was promised within 15mins a refund. they where very concerned and said this is not allowed without our permission.
I am with SP and they have apologised and informed me all will be ok by the 20th November...my next DD payment as it happens. They froze my account thinking I was leaving them and told me all kinds of tales.... they did not take my DD in October... I only noticed that last evening...they have taken away my history and still not returned my previous bills etc although I have requested that I need this information back.
BG... I phoned last night and although it was like talking to a 'freezer kinda attitude' I eventually was informed that somebody would ring be back within 48 hours with some answers/explanations and how I was too get my money back!!!
I feel anybody can now invade my accounts.

I presumed it was SP who gave the details.
I have central service contract with BG.............mmmmmmmmmmmmmm

Welcome to the 'convenient' world of direct debits. Seriously thought this is rare but it can and does happen. There is no way to opt out of the direct debit system completely.

If you're saying you have a homecare account then I would suggest you ring homecare and try and find out if there is any reason a chrage may have been raised on a recent job.....part maybe?

As already informed (and you seem to have done) your paying bank is obligated to refund you if you claim under the terms of the DD guarantee.

  • My bank refunded as stated but no callback yet from British Gas with explanations. They used our bank details (which they would have had from us many years ago for our central heating service contract) without our permission to set up a new DD for supplying gas and electric which we had declined back end Sept early Oct purely because there prices where more expensive than our present supplier SP. Our bank said this is an iilegal act by BG. Dianne

As you have made an indemnity claim, the Originator's sponsor will be aware of this.

If you truly think anything illegal has occured, notify the police and request a crime number.

My bank spokeperson said it was an illegal act, whether that makes it truly a crime to be reported to the Police I have no idea and have not considered going down that route. I would like to keep my Bank as private as possible unless consent is given that is for certain. Dianne
