Storage heating

My husband and I are moving to a different flat, with economy 7 storage heating. I know it heats up at night on the economy 7 rate, but I'm confused by all this input/output business.
When I'm at uni all day, but it's been heating up at night, how do I set it so that it gives out heat when I get home at 6 instead of heating up the flat while I'm out??
Thank you

Set the output to minimum.
However be aware that the problem with all storage heaters is they 'leak' heat during the day. This often means they 'run out' of heat in the evening.0 -
Hi lawstudent100 - Sounds as though this is your first experience of ECO7 heating
Cardew's advice to shut down the Output Flaps on the Storage Radiators last thing at night, to conserve heat for the next evening is quite right, but as he says, they will leak heat during the day.
Be aware of how the charges work - Overnight your meter supplies low cost power to heat the Storage rads and fill your hot water tank, but, the power you use during the 'Day' is more expensive than that supplied thro' a Standard meter, (the 'Day' period is usually 00.30am till 6.30am), so if you can, run Wash Machines etc overnight
As a rough rule of thumb, ECO meters produce an annual bill of around £1200 - £1400 a year0 -

Unfortunately, unless you have a super duper system that has some type of programmable timer, then you can't programme it.
Set the output to low befoire you go to bed.
If you need more heat output when you get in at 6, increase the output level (but remember to set it back to low before bed)
If you find the heater is running out of heat before it has a chance to heat up again, you've probably set the input too low."Now to trolling as a concept. ....
