If your TV takes USB sticks, yes.sebastianj wrote: »Which usb stick will you recommend?
One which is big enough? Or did I not understand your question?0 -
Thanx, yes it has to be 8gig or above, what I meant was, how do i go about selecting the video clips etc; as these sticks do not come with remote. Can tv remote do this? or is there another way.

It depends entirely on the facilities offered by your television.sebastianj wrote: »...what I meant was, how do i go about selecting the video clips etc; as these sticks do not come with remote. Can tv remote do this? or is there another way.

If your TV suppoerts USB stick, then you should be able to use your remote. How else would one select a video?
What does the manual of the TV say about it?0 -
If your TV takes USB sticks, yes.
Not strictly true. Depends on the model of the TV. Most bottom end models will only allow picture playback as a minimum via the USB port, whilst the more expensive top end models will support video playback as well. You'll need to check the manual for supported video formats and codecs.
If you provide the TV make and model, I'm sure someone on here will be able to advise accordingly on what formats your particular model will accept.0 -
Just because your tv has a USB port doesnt mean it'll play your video files.
And just because your tv says it DOES play video files, doesn't mean it'll play all formats of video files.
This is a bit of a technical one, and the place you need to start is with your TV manual, or let us know the model.0 -
Many thanks everyone,
I cannot find the manual, the tv model is Sony 40''kdl40W5500.

I have the same TV.
But have never tried playing video via the USB port.
You can download the manual from here
According to the manual it only supports MPEG1 format. Which is a bit pants, but might be adequate for your usage.
Alternative you could get something like the WDTV media player from Maplins for £39.99 (I think it was £29.99 for a short time) which does a better job and supports more formats. There are cheaper alternatives...have a look at ebuyer and the sumvision micro player
Good luck.0 -
I have the Xenta branded equivalent of that sumvision cyclone player that was mentioned on order... (I preferred the remote)
I think that you're probably better off getting one of these types of devices if you want to play video in your TV from a USB stick, they support most of the video format's you're likely to encounter.
As for getting the video on to the USB. Be prepared to deal with some tricky software, and for the conversion process to take a long time (potentially hours!)0
