JUST a QUICK VENT
outrageous quote for armchair!
Over the weekend i phoned a well known mobility company to ask
for a catalogue about rise and recline armchairs. On monday we were
phoned to say rep in area tomorrow.
So you get the picture IE TODAY a rep called in and asked a few
details and as my husband is 26 stone ,they would need to do a
made to measure one, although do go up to 50stone
we were stunned when after a few minutes scratching his
head,mutterings,and calculations he said
TO BUY £4345 or to rent over 3 years £177.70 a month!!!
needless to say only on incap, dla etc this was out of our range. He
was a nice chap and phoned his manager to see if they could do
anything else which they couldn`t.
Am I out of touch with the price of such furniture or do others feel
as I do, that this is an unreasonable quote .
We will get others to find out, but please let me know your thoughts.

The saleman probably thought that the chair would be geting paid for by the government so they could charge what they liked.
I wouldn't be surprised if you now start getting lots of phone calls or letters stating that the salesman has spoken to head office and they have reduced the price a bit, then a bit more, and maybe even more.0 -
You may get a follow up with a reduced price I would bet!
You should pay about £1300-£1400 for that sort of spec, (weight will be an issue with sub £1000 chairs).0 -
This area is rife with scammers, cheats and cowboys in my opinion, who prey on the vulnerable and elderly. It sounds like you had your wits about you though and are not easily taken in by sales talk.
I would be interested to hear about the sales patter and whether you feel they were 'pressure selling' the items - possibly not if there were two of you there. It would also help if you could name the company.0 -
It is called a free market economy... they offer goods at an asking price, you as the consumer have the option to go elsewhere.. at the end of the day it is a niche product... if that is what it costs then that what it cost, the alternative... a diet then a trip to Harveys...0

I have to agree, this should be an excellent incentive to lose weight.Gone ... or have I?0 -
You've posted in the right place because there's plenty of armchair lawyers here.0
