HELP... I'm confused

With all this going on in the news about budget cuts I'm really confused.

So here it is...

I'm 21 years old in receipt of Employment Support Allowance and DLA. I've been living on my own in a council flat since I was 17 therefore claiming Housing Benefits and Council Tax Benefits.

My ESA has been stopped at the moment as they claim I'm no longer entitled and I should go onto JSA however I'm still entitled to DLA.

I have appealed against the decision based on the information put in a report from the Health Care Partitioner from ATOS who did my medical for ESA.

Hopefully my ESA should be reinstated based on the information I have supplied and the information by Dr would be able to provide.

How are these cut's going to effect me? Someone told me housing benefits will only be paid for me for a single room therefore meaning I would have to pay the rest myself?

I understand ESA are being more strict on who gets ESA which is apparently why I've been refused to carry on claiming however based on the information I have given friends & family think the decision should be over turned.

When I first applied for DLA it was also turned down but I appealed and the decision was over turned.

Any help would be appreciated...

Why are you living on your own if you are unable to support yourself ? Could you give us a bit more info about your situation ?
  • I've been suffering with sever depression for about 4 years now but only came out to admitting to it about a year ago.

I started claiming ESA when I was sacked from work as they where unable to continue supporting me being signed of on the sick.

I had gotten better a few months ago then went back to a bad spell which was when I seen Atos but the depression is getting me badly over the past week and after seeing my Dr on Monday he has decided to keep an eye on me for 3 weeks then decided weather to change my medication.

DLA have told me I need a career to ensure I dont harm myself.

I don't have a career but my next door neighbour does keep an eye on me making sure I try and get things done in the flat like keeping it tidy and cooking food.

Where I don't cook myself food she often helps out but she is not officially my career.

Any thing else you need to know please ask and I will try to explain.
  • Shared accommodation/1 bed rates are only appropriate for those who rent privately, so irrelevant to your situation.
  • Ah right excellent that's made me happier knowing that :D Cheers

Even if you did rent privately you'd still get the one bed rate because of DLA. I'm 20 and on DLA and get 1 bed rate (living alone) not the shared room rate.

Utter rubbish, the DWP dont decide that you need a carer, thats up to the disabled person and many choose not to because they would lose the SDP or that they dont need a carer because they can cope alone.
