Have sold 6 things on ebay.
Usually send everything through RM with recorded delivery but wondering if i need to.
none are "high value" items.
1. £3 with Free P&P
2. £2.79 with £4 P&P
3. £1.20 with £4 P&P
4. £22 with £8 P&P (digital camera going through courier)
5. £0.99 with £4 P&P
6. £5.50 with £5.00 P&P
7. £10.50 with £5 P&P
None are breakable (and they're wrapped in TONS of bub blewrap anyway just in case!)
But would you send them recorded?

I personally think recorded is a waste of money both for buyer and seller.
For the amounts involved you may as well consider it as insuring yourself.
If you get proof of postage you should be more than covered..0 -
Recorded is no good for paypal as in some areas it never tracks, you are also spending 74p each time on something that has no use , and I'd rather keep all my money for myself.
For my Items under £41 I use standard 2nd class mail with a COP, items over £41 special deliveryI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Plus it puts buyers off... If I see recorded as the only option then I tend to avoid. I don't see why I should pay for your insurance?Thinking it over...:o0

I never use recorded. With low cost items I don't always bother getting a Certificate of Posting as the queues in the PO are soooo long. I only have a small percentage go missing so it's actually better to just absorb those costs. With high cost items and dodgy-looking buyers I will use special delivery.
As jopwo_87 said it can also put buyers off. I try and avoid sellers who use recorded because I am never at home to sign for the parcel and I end up having to go on a long trek to the sorting office (I live in the country).0 -
I too generally don't use it, I did the following sum of the last 200 items sold.
200 x 74p = £148, items 'lost' in the post £26.
Basically its a calulated risk and in my case its paying off, with higher value items (£30+) I do force recorded or special delivery but most items are £5-£20.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

Hi, i totally disagree as to my misfortune recently! I always kept proof of postage when i sold something & told buyers i cannot be held resposable for items that go missing in the post & they can make a claim with royal mail if the item "does go missing" as sometimes this happens... Unfortunatley you do get dishonest ebayers... Anyway as i thought this was good enough until recentley when one ebayer stated they hadnt received a item & i was willing to send "proof of postage" but they opened a "pay pal" case... When i got into touch with them they stated "unless the item was sent Recorded delivery & has a tracking number-my reciept is basically Useless" much to my annoyance, so therefor i had to refund the money back! You can still put in a claim with royal mail-as long as your not in a hurry to be reimburst... Items posted abroad, no i wont, but if you do sell something for a lot of money its best you protect yourself & post "recorded delivery" 1st or 2nd class... Its not worth it if the item is very heavy, try another courier... Hope this helps :xmassign:0

You misunderstand what recorded actually does. If you think all buyers are dodgy then don't use ebay at all, it isn't worth the stress. Recorded does not stop a paypal claim, it rarely ever shows as delivered anyway so buyer still wins.Hi, i totally disagree as to my misfortune recently! Regardless of how you send something if it doesn't arrive it is your responsibility as the seller to refund the buyer and claim your own losses from RM.
You may well have actually come across a buyer who was being unpleasant merely because you had stupid terms about not being responsible for loss in the post. It is a dodgy looking seller who puts that in their auctions.
The other thing to be mindful of is stars, as a seller they mean everything to us. Recorded makes you look expensive, some buyers do mark sellers down for using an un necessary service that is of no benefit to them, and it can be hard enough to maintain perfect stars without that hassle.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I'm coming to the conclusion that no matter how you post (except special del or fully tracked courier, obviously just for expensive items) if you get a INR claim you are going to lose no matter what!
In the same way as it's hard to defend any other type of claim, like a SNAD/faulty/broken etc etc.
The sooner a seller accepts that, and include the cost of 'shoplifting' and bad debts in the price, the better.
BTW Any disclaimer stating you are not taking responsibility for items lost in the post, it's just an invite to get claims started against you....
PS soolin 'maintaining perfect stars'? I wish I had them in the first place, they lasted a week then I had a couple of star wreckers...0 -

Maybe I should have changed it to 'good' or even 'average' then as I agree there are very few sellers now with 5* across the board. I always consider anything above 4.8 across all the categories about as perfect as they get. I'd even buy from a 4.7 or 4.6 seller but would read comments on feedback first. I even bought once from a seller at 4.1, but I was desperate for the goods and it was such a bargain that I knew if I won at opening bid i could turn a really good profit by reselling.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I say its a waste of money, I usually put up two prices one for standard first class another first class recorded, once ive sent the invoice the buyer gets to choose which they wish to pay for!
