help.. can I claim on my contents insurance?

I have misplaced my wedding and engagement rings. I dont know If I have lost them at home or from my handbag. Can I claim on my contents insurance or would I have to have personal posessions cover. They cost almost £1400 so can't afford to replace them.

That will depend on the exact wording of your policy. Often simply misplacing an item is not covered. Think about it, you don't even know for sure you've lost the item, you might still find it in your house somewhere. On my policy mysterious loss is not covered, but had I dropped it on Cromer pier and it fell through the floorboards into the sea, it would be. Look at your small print or ask your insurer if your loss is covered.
