in Credit cards
I made a payment for an item over the phone and later after some research found the item was an earlier model so am no longer going to travel and pick it up.
I contacted the shop and asked for refund of payment on day 3 as I would not be collecting the item. I am confident I will be refunded but should I do anything else such as contact my credit card company to ensure that failing a refund I am still covered by the 7 day Distance selling Reg 2000?
Thanks.

Jumping the gun I think.
Wait 5 business days or so either for the refund to be credited back or the original payment authorisation to drop off (if you haven't actually paid yet)
At the moment your card lender won't want to know.0 -
Weird one this. For credit card transactions, if you pick up, then normally you are supposed to complete the purchase in the shop. In this case, DSR doesn't arise - you can simply decide not to complete the purchase. The reason for this is security - if people give a credit card over the phone and then collect goods it is risky because there is no proof of where the goods went.
Anyway, aside from that - you should cancel in writing. Even though you ordered by phone, cancelling by phone is not enough for the DSR. If the shop told you originally they would accept cancellation by phone, then you should be OK but I would still do it in writing.
Bear in mind there are a few requirements for DSR to apply (not bespoke goods, you're a consumer, they're selling as a business etc) but you've said nothing that suggests any issues there.
[Edit: I mean cancel with the shop. No need to involve the CC now.]0 -
Thanks chattychappy. I have emailed so assume this is classed as "in writting" as I have a record of the correspondence.
As said doubt I'll have any issues, but wanted to make sure now that I do anything I should rather than encounter problems later if the refund wasn't given.
Really appreciate the responses. Puts my mind at rest. Thanks.
