Royal Mail problem - advice needed

Hi,
This morning a signed for parcel (finally) arrived for me. because me and my boyfriend live in a block of flats, he buzzed the phone thingy to let us know he was there.
in the time it took me to pull on a hoody and uggs, jump in the lift(which was thankfully at my floor) and get to the front door he had gone, leaving me with a piece of paper telling me that i need to go to the local depot and pick it up. I live on the 7th floor, and this is easily distinguishable from my address: 708.... why did he not give me 5mins+ to get down (in all it probs took me 3mins?) and now i have to wait ANOTHER 48hrs then drive to the depot just to pick up my package.

what can i do complaining wise? i tried to ring up the number he left, but noone answered. HELP!!

The number on the card was probably for your local delivery office, if it's anything like mine, it's only open from 7am - Midday.

There are probably numbers on the Royal Mail website to log a complaint.

Did you speak to the postman on the intercom, did he know that you were coming down?

My postman (van postman, not normal one) has often disappeared in the time it takes me to just throw on my dressing gown and I don't live in a flat. So it's a bit ambitious expecting yours to wait for 5 mins.

    5 miutes per door
gives you less than 12 packages an hour with travelling time
3 minutes may not sound long to you
RM give a postie 6 seconds per door in their computer walk design program
so in this 3 minutes, could you not get to the intercom?

So you went to the door in just a hoodie and a pair of Uggs? Postie will be sorry he didn't wait to 'see you'!

    and?
does that mean you can stand for "5+ minutes"
anywhere i have delivered with 'private boxes' has had an intercom
or does a postie just use the force to ascertain someone is coming?

Apologies i thought the Op had written that she had spoken to him.

  • Yeah, he rang the intercom and my boyfriend said that i'll go down and collect it. i know expecting to wait 5mins+ is ambitious, but only being allowed 6secs? the RM is being a bit stingy with that one!
    thanks for the help!
    p.s. @gordykin - i was wearing my p.j's as well!
  • yeah, private mailboxes, but because it was a signed for parcel, the postie rings the intercom system - always been there before, can't understand why he wasn't this time!

well how longs a piece fo string
seriously, you may feel it wasnt a long time
but its an eternity when you have 100's of items to deliver
if you wait at a door for 5 minutes and have travelling time in between packets it could be 8 packets an hour.
that means RM are paying nearly £1 /hour in wages along just to deliver that packet

Could you not have chased him down the street in your PJs and uggs??

Was there no stair case to run down? (sometimes faster?)
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)
