but you have to remember that your pc guy saw your computer in its home environment and saw what you had plugged into it. if you had physically taken your computer to pc world or any other pc repair place/person you would likely have taken out all your devices, so would have fixed itself. and I doubt any pc person (let alone pcworld people) would have asked what you normally have plugged into your pc.
Er no....I wouldn't have removed the memory card within the PC tower in order to take the PC to PCW; so I doubt whether it would have 'fixed itself' as referenced in your response.

A common enough story.
Curious though, with 20 years IT experience, why you went to PCW first, and then only 'in desperation' to a local PC Repair co? Shouldn't the latter always be the first port of call?
Sounds like all that had happened was that the RAM had become unseated.
Might have been 20 years in 'I.T' as a data analyst. Just because someone works in I.T doesn't mean they're handy with a computer. I could work at a doctors for 20 years as a cleaner but it doesn't mean I could diagnose anything :-)--

As said above, the best thing to do next time is remove all non-essential hardware so you are left with just the motherboard + processor and 1 stick of RAM. See if it boots up, if not change stick of RAM and try again. If not theres your fault. If it does work add one thing at a time and see what happensSmile and be happy, things can usually get worse!0

Hi all,
Over the last 2-to-3 days, I have had problems with my DELL desktop PC. It wouldn't boot up and it looked as though there was a problem with either my mother board or the on/off siwtch at the front of the tower block.
My PC is over 5 years old and I have over 20 years experience working in IT.
If you've 20 years experience working in IT then:
a) Why did you go to PC World?
b) Why did you pay someone to fix it for you?
I have over 20 years experience in IT and I fix my own. Or have you 20 years experience typing letters up in Word? Hardly experience in IT really....0 -

People have been driving for 20 years, but they still go to fiat and volkswagen dealerships...0 -

I bet that you are with Lloyds, Natwest or with one of the other state-owned banks; cause you sound like a real 'banker' to me !!:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0 -

Judging by your 2 pointless posts on this thread (the last one of which I have quoted above. Didn't bother quoting your other one cos it had even less value !), I doubt whether whether you could diagnose anything so it is probably good for all us that you never became a doctor !:):rotfl::)0
