npower rebates

Hi I have just received a letter from npower offering a rebate of £34.73 from my payments to the company due to possible missunderstandings in the pricing structure.
Two questions really
Firstly is this a preemptive strike by them to avoid paying real compensation
Secondly why do they need so much information? they have asked for full name, current address, the address where I lived when supplied by them and approximate dates when they supplied me all this when they have figuered out that they owe me £34.73 (a scarily exact figure?)
Hope someone understands this because I don't !

If the npower representative on this site could explain the calculations it might put an end to our confusion.
