Need Electricity Meter moving

Options
Hi.

We need to move an electricity meter from an inside kitchen wall as the wall is being removed. We want to move it to outside house wall, to the nearest point from the road (where the cable comes in) to the property.

I have been told that this will be estimated between £700 and £1200.

How do I go about getting competitive quotes on this? I have looked at the Lloyds approved contractors list but can't make out from reading the listings which companies do small services.

Any ideas or advice gratefully received.
Many thanks in advance

  • It's extremely unlikely you're going to find it any cheaper than that, unfortunately
  • As the cable supplying the house is part of the national grid it is highly unlikley that anyone other than the network operator (DNO) for your area will be able to do this work.....and they will probably be doing it live!

There is no mention of the fusebox, this is your responsibility, and if it needs moving you'll require the services of an electrician.....add £3-400 to your costs as a minimum for this!

The meter is the easiest bit to do, as it fits in between the two, this is the suppliers job, if the supplier is the same as the DNO it will be done at the same time as the mains cable. They may get a bit funny about moving the meter if they arnt the supplier, some do.
