Blood Donating for over-50s

I've just given blood today for the first time for years! I couldn't give for many years as I was on blood pressure tablets, glad to say I am now off them as my bp is normal.
Much more stuff to read than years ago and the health questionnaire is much longer than it used to be.
Glad I went, I don't feel faint or tired so there is obviously life in the old gal yet.
There is now no upper age limit for existing donors, as long as you are fit and healthy.
Upper age limit for new donors is 58. (They will not continue to take your blood past 60 if you did not start to donate for two years before). I am nearly 61 but have given intermittently since I was in my 20s, I've probably given about fifteen pints by now.
Anyone who has given in the past and is 'lapsed' please consider going again or if you are the right age, go for the first time, an hour out of your time could save someone's life.

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

Thanks for this, good to hear your BP is now normal. I'm extremely grateful to whoever it was that donated a couple of pints for my use a while back..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)

I can't donate blood because of a medical condition but I receive some on a regular basis. Thanks to all of you who donate. I really appreciate it." The greatest wealth is to live content with little."
