Windows XP Question

Hi I am running Windows XP Home on my PC and the other day I had some scripts problems so I thought I would put the old Windows XP Disk back in to the computer and let it fix any problems that i may have created  when the disc ran a sign came up stating that the windows i have on my pc is newer than the version i had on disk I do remember downloading updates for it if i remember properly it was SP1. Now I have another XP professional disk (both legal copies) If i put the XP Pro disk in the pc will it work without having to uninstall the XP Home or will it completely knacker my puter.

Work in what way if you are trying to run sfc/scannow known as system file checker from within windows you require a disc with windows home SP 1 on it .Or are you trying to reinstall windows .
XP should be on SP 3 now so if you have taken all the updates that is what you require on the disc.

The old disk is XP Home SP1 Computer updated to SP3 disk is still on SP1

The new disk is XP Professional SP3
Home? Proffessional? see what i am trying to get at. As I have said on many occasions I am quite old and computer terminology is not my strong subject so getting my point across is usually difficult for computer techie's to understand. :o I Will at sometime wipe my hardrive and reinstall XP pro but I have things on my PC that I don't want to loose again. thanks

I also dont understand the difference between HOME and PRO thats what i meant by "will it work" like a XP PRO disk being run on a XP HOME computer. Am I any nearer to making my point guys??

explain more what you are trying to fix before you start booting from xp discs. Script error in IE? - reset ie to defaults under tools, internet options, advanced.

You should be on sp3 now.

Xp pro keys won't work with home, so you could end up getting into a mess if you continue down this path.

If you are just running a scanfix to fix errors then Pro may work .
But like last post i am not sure of what you are saying in put old disc back into the computer .
Are you running a repair from the disc or within windows .

What it was I was composing an ad for ebay and I copied and pasted some of my add+Pics from another one of my adverts when the sign popped up saying some of the scripts were causing my computer to run slowly and I had to click an option if i clicked no my PC froze (Not Responding) so I had to click yes. So thats when I thought put the disk in and fix errors sort of thing.

If it's a one off, I'd forget it, or reset IE as suggested. If it continues do a malwarebytes scan and post a hijackthis log. Trying to do repairs, with different service packs and versions of XP is not advisable.
