Anyone used Metro Salvage?
I have a new car and my old Daewoo is sitting around unused with tax until end of January and MOT until July.
Initally I had planned to sell it but it's not a desirable vehicle and the Logbook has it recorded as Accident Damaged, so realistically this will also reduce what I get for the car.
Today I started looking around the internet to see what I could sell it for as scrap value and Metro Salvage phoned me and offered £200 cash plus free collection. I reckon a maximum I could sell it to a private buyer for would be £400. So am considering the Metro Salvage offer as on top of the £200 I could claim a road tax refund which would take that up the £244.
Does this seem like a good deal, does anyone know if they are reputable?

In Bolton? They're a Big breakers on Waterloo St..... I've dealt with them in the past and would recommend them no problem.0

Think that they're based in Bolton 01204 number, they'll collect my car for free too and I'm in Newcastle so seems good.0

A lot of these places - probably all - process catalytic converters, batteries and tyres separately, but only give you a price per ton of car. Therefore if you take the battery out, cut off the cat and take the wheels off (have the wheel nuts lossened and when they lift the car simply take them off) you should get £10-20 for the battery, £30-40 for the cat and something for the tyres. If they wont pay for the tyres separately and they are decent, stick them onto gumtree.
Also, if it has a decent audio system - even a standard CD player counts - take it out and put it onto ebay.
Also, the service books / manuals may make something on ebay too.
Also check out what tail lights and headlights make for your model on ebay and see if thats worthwhile.
And the wheel trims if they're good nick.
Again, depends if you have a bit of free time, but i thought i'd point it out as this is MSE after all! :money:0
