The Windows in the spec are for Blairs Windows who are vey highly thought of.
However in discussion with the builder today he feels we would be better going down the UPVC route (cheaper) or Aluminium route (similar price). His argument is that the maintenance will be an issue on he coming years.
Any thoughts?

I've seen some Aluminium clad wooden ones - can't remember the name now. They appear to combine the benefits of timber in terms of the insulation, with the low maintenance and robust exterior in Aluminium. Unfortunately the only other thing I can remember is that they have a stand at the self build centre in Swindon.
ETA having lived with Aluminium frames when DG was first introduced, you will get a lot of condensation on the frames due to heat loss.Adventure before Dementia!0 -
Wood will look better, but as you say will need some care but could last forever.
UPVC looks cheap, is cheap and will need replacing in time.
Alu clad wood would be a good but not cheap option.
It depends on the style of the property and properties in the area.0 -
Proper alu DG (I don't mean alu clad wood) these days has a proper gap between inside and outside layers (sorry, don't know the technical words) to minimise condensation on the frames.
I was told that the lifespan of this type of alu DG is about 10 years longer than equivalent UPVC,0
