I've had a FD mortgage approved (subject to valuation). Is it safe to apply for a new credit card now (actually with First Direct)?

Are there any more searches likely to be made by FD for the mortgage?

It's impossible to give you a yes/no answer without further information, ie (but not limited to) total CC debt, mortgage amount, salary, etc for both yourself and anyone else named on the mortgage application.

I guess that was the question I was hoping to get an answer for. No other debt and mortgage is well within salary affordability.

Try the Mortgages and Endowments board.

They'll use the information you've already given them to make the initial credit card assessment. You'll probably then be asked to call their credit assessment people on 08456 100 100 and then they'll do another credit search.

The relative smoothness of the mortgage process will give you an idea of how they assess your income/liabilities.
