As we spend a large amount of our time at varies hospitals around the country we thought we would buy our 5 year old something to play dvd's on
We were originally looking at something along the lines of a portable dvd player like the iluv1155....but are now think could we pick up a netbook for around the same sort of money
this is naturally alot more versitile as she can then play some games and do other things with it
Dont know an awful lot about netbooks but those around the £100 mark seem to run windows CE.....will this be able to handle playing a movie on?
If we go down the netbook route what is the best option to go for that has the best battery life and where would people recommend buying from
Many thanks again

I would say a portable DVD player is still the best option -- netbooks are woefully underpowered and would struggle.
Make sure get one that can play DivX as they you can put 6 movies on a DVD.

Netbooks don't always come with optical drives, so you wouldn't be able to play DVDs unless you ripped them and put them onto the netbook itself.0

Ripping is taking the content off the DVD and putting onto your netbook/PC.
Is they dont own a PC then there is no point getting one as a portable dvd player will do the job better"If you no longer go for a gap, you are no longer a racing driver" - Ayrton Senna0 -

"Ripping" is the term used when you "rip" (or copy) video or music from a CD/DVD to a file on your PC.
If you go the route of a NetBook then you'll need to buy a portable DVD drive. So you may as well just get a Portable DVD player instead!!
If the OP could go the Archos route!
it's a media player that can usually plug via a cradle, into a TV/Sky/DVD player box and record. so you could copy a DVD or sky+'ed kids programs on to the device to keep the little terror happy...Laters
