Help XP won't activate on a netbook

I lost my wireless connection after installing a O2 usb dongle. Trying to re-install them, I used the Medion Recovery Disk, which said it would update XP (SP3). Correct Disk, itis a Medion Akoya. Did the necessary, and now when it books it says it needs Microsoft to activate it, when I click Yes it just goes to my background screen and stays. I have a wired internet connection into it from my router.

Choose Activate by phone and it'll generate a product ID as well as give you an 0800 number to ring. Just follow the instructions given over the phone.

It wouldn't offer me that option, tried re-loading again, and exactly the same, so as no special data kept on the netbook put it back to factory start, and now loading updates like they have gone out of fashion.
