Just so you know, i just got one of ebay for 93 pound. It came in box all packaged as if it was brand new you wouldnt know the difference honestly. It also came with 4 games and a wireless controller. It is an x box premier is it? The one with a 20gb hard drive? And that is more than enough for my son (7) But he will be made up with it! Just a suggestion so you can maybe save some money :)

some games require for data to be on the hard drive to be used for certain features of the game. so I would strongly suggest getting a hard drive model as it is far more futureproofed and wil not require you to buy a costly proprietary HDD later on.

only other problem is that xbox live costs £50 (£30 from places online) so you will likely have to factor that into the cost along with a game.
  • Also something to bear in mind is kinnect is out today and it will be this Christmas must have and thats a Xbox add on. These packages are £250 and £300 but it does come with a game. If he is not interested in that I would go for a preowned 120gb xbox and then build it from there. Depending on the games he will play the 4gb may not do him so you would need the bigger hard drive. then you will need to factor in Xbox live which you can get in 3 months or a year package if you want him to play games online. You can pick up preowned games cheap to build his collection up.

buy the 4gb package from sainsburies..

£149 you get 4gb xbox.. fifa 11.. moh..

tyake the games to somewhere like cex. trade them in for £60

xbox then stands you at £90..

you can then buy years xbox live for around £30 (places like cheapxboxlivecodes etc)

£120 outlay.. then if you wanted to add a hard drive you could pick up a cheap pc one or old original xbox one..

gives you brand new xbox, with built in wifi, years live subscription, hard drive.. for around £150..

You'll be lucky to get £60 for those games...
Plus he might actually want something to play at Christmas.. ;)

AFAIK the old hard drives will not work with the new version so a new WD would be your only likely option

Sainsburys are offering the 250 model with Fifa 11 (or MOH, FOVegas, WWE) for £199 - Sorted :D

your bundle has just used up all the budget yet theres no live subscription ??

sainsburies were doing yesterday 250gb, with fifa 11 for £170. and black ops for £27 when spend £30 so could get the lot for £197.. sell black ops for £33 to pay for xbox live.. leve you with 250gb + fifa 11 + 1 years xbox live and still under budget ;)

if your talking about the old 'fat' xbox proprietary hard drives working in the new 'slim' xbox, they don't as the new 'slim' xbox uses a different proprietary case for the hard drive

yeah your right I only have the ugly fat xbox and had only seen the 'non conector' end of the new xbox hard drive, so assumed it was proprietary xbox hard drive again.

here is a guide for the old hard drive to new hard drive
so I guess you could just buy any old hard drive for the new xbox and it will work?
  • Hi guys

Don't mean to hijack the thread but I have a question.

I would like to get an xbox - specifically to play the kinnect games. I like the idea of not using a controller. Hubby has a ps3 and frankly the games hold no appeal what so ever for me, but the idea of being scanned and jumping about does. I know my DDs would really enjoy it too - they play with the Ipet and the one with Sackboy (for the life of me I can't think what its called!!!) and we have bought them a move for Christmas - but that is still a controller.

So what would be best? I would not be looking to "Go live" with the xbox and would specifically be buying it go play the dancing and exercise games (I do so need to lose some weight too :p)

I am looking my learned friends for inspiration. Thanks!
