Oh yeah as if everyone with a child seat is going to be arsing about taking bulbs out of the speedo head...0 -
Air bag light, Take the bulb out and it passes.
No it won't. The red airbag light should flash when ignition is on and will go out after few seconds. If not, then it means something wrong with airbag.
For deactivated passenger airbag, that warning light will be yellow and not red.
Airbag does prevent serious injury and/or death. I had a head on collision and survived without injury because of seatbelt/airbags. So it is a good thing to test.Happiness is buying an item and then not checking its price after a month to discover it was reduced further.0 -
My remapped car will get an MOT one way or another, lol.0

How can a removed bulb glow any colour? My car only has amber lamps for the airbag. It flashes a code when there is a fault. But only amber.Censorship Reigns Supreme in Troll City...0 -
I think that's what movilogo means.
Remove the bulb and it'll most likely be spotted, as IIRC the MOT testers are well aware that people will try removing warning bulbs on the dash to hide faults, and so check they light up correctly when the key is in the ignition (most cars I've seen have most of the warning lights show if briefly when the key is first inserted/turned to allow people to see that the bulbs are working).
Turning the airbag off properly won't give a "fault" light, it'll give a status indicator, most likely the same symbol but with a different colour or similar.
Hence removing the bulb won't fool the testers into passing it, it'll probably be a fail because the status indication isn't working correctly (thus a "fault" with the airbag system).0 -
Let me guess... they sell remaps.
Thanks for posting though.0 -
Two things.
1) I used to own a 1999 car that had factory fit OEM HIDs which did not have self levelling, washers or suspension. When I bought it it failed the MOT as the previous owner had retrofitted halogen bulbs. Under these rules this car would fail under both sets of rules
2) What is wrong with piggyback ECUs? They're not illegal and done right they work fine. A common use would be, say, you have fitted larger fuel injectors, so now the injector duty cycle from the ECU needs to be reduced in order to compensate, you put a little box in to do this. This allows you to run the injectors at 100% duty cycle without risking the engine.
3) What about those of us with pre-OBD cars who don't have any facility to flash the ECU?
Doesn't affect me personally since the chip I intend to use, you have to crack open the ECU and replace the existing data ROM with a socket, install their board into the new socket, then cut a little hole for a USB port into the side of the ECU casing. Plus you need to remove trim to get to the ECU anyway. Still worrying though.0 -
I wouldn't be surprised if there is a cut off date introduced. So the new requirements only apply to post 2011 cars.
Having said that, I'd like to see the dodgy HID ban applied retrospectively as it is the only thing that affects the safety of other road users. Two things.

First... that was three things.
Second... DNA Tuning (who wrote the article posted above) sell ECU remaps. It is in their commercial interest to put the wind up people who are considering, or who already own, a piggy-back tuning box.

Yeah I went back and edited in a 3rd point and forgot to change the header.
Good point on the tuning shop though. Gits.
As for the HID ban, surely a test of beam pattern and spill is all you need. Hella make retrofit HID units that have levelling built into them, though they are expensive. If you can get them to fit into your car with the correct beam pattern and without light spilling all over the place then you should be allowed to do it IMO.0 -

I agree... if it is done properly. I have considered fitting HID main beams to the headlights of my car. The dipped are already HID, so the levelling system and washers are already fitted. Even then, it is not a cheap option.0
