    Just a quick one here...

Starting a new job on 15th November and literally have £3 in my purse to last me until my first payday.:(

I have a basic bank account with the Halifax (Easycash account) and my credit rating is less than perfect for many reasons.

What would be my chances of getting my bank to agree to an overdraft with my appaling credit rating if I can give them proof of my impending employment and salary?

Thanks in advance for any help!

Have you got a credit card that you can use and pay off in full when you get paid if not then you can apply for a subprime credit card such as Capital one. The interest will be less than a payday loan and when you get paid you can just clear it.

have you asked your bank yet?
show them a copy of your new employment contract and they might extend your od or upgrade your account, or both

if you dont ask you will never know
and they wouldnt normally have to credit score you, if you already bank with them

I am going from weekly pay (and part time work) to monthly pay (and full time work). My last pay was for only 8 hours work so as you can imagine, it wasn't going to last until my first payday in my new job!

Well its good to know you have a full time job on monthly pay - this is only another 15 days then until you will get paid so can any friends or family help you out until then?

    Not helpful for today.

But the idea of building up a contingency fund of 3 months net pay would have helped you out in the circumstances that you describe.

    For others - do it!
  • Thanks everyone for your help! I managed to get a very small loan from a friend of mine to tide me over until I get my first pay so I'm very grateful for that!

opinions4u, I will be building up a small fund after new year to cover any emergencies which may occur! And good advice for anyone else reading the thread!!!
