    Hi Matt,

    Yes, its normal to have those valves closed. you open one to let main supply water in under pressure. The pressure level is not critical but if you find a pressure guage you will see this rise as you let more water in. If you bleed the system, the pressure will fall.

    Ah, that would explain why when Mr EL bled our radiators last weekend, at the end of last week the water pressure was zilch!
