In both types of schools are parents who think their own darling cannot possibly be the perpetrator and it is THIS that is the problem not whether it is private or state education.
Not to mention the fact that pupils / parents in the private sector seem to think that as they're paying, they should get what they ask for, and some HTs in the private sector bend over backwards to see that they do. Not all.

Another cost to factor into private education is taking exams, AND any extra help which is needed. Dyslexic? Pay for an assessment, pay for extra help.

there are many dyslexic students attending private schools who are withdrawn once a week for learning support at o extra charge to parents.

the only time when an extra cost is incurred is when a parent wishes to have one to one support for their child - since this is not necessarily a requirement then an extra cost is incurred to cover the cost of the addtional teaching staff required

if there is a child who needs one to one support as the result of a genuine need eg hearing impairment, cerebral palsy etc then the LEA works in liaison with the school

however, as jackieglasgowjackieglasgow has not mentionned that her son would require learning support i did not think this was a live issue for her

I suspect it may vary from one school to another, and possibly on the degree of disability: I would say it is something to check if you think it may be an issue.

Although jackie didn't suggest anything like that, I mentioned it as the thread may be read by others who are considering private education because of Special Educational Needs.

And there was a thread a while back from someone who was hoping to get a child statemented within the private sector: I wasn't aware that could happen, and I don't believe it did in that case.
