Thanks - yes I do keep it in overmight and it only needs relighting about once a week wehn I have to leave it go cold to clean the whole lot out - otherwise its just the ashpan every day as 'savemoney' says.
No gas here unless we had the bottles stuff. As we pay about £80-100 a month on coal not sure how oil would compare.

7roland8, I also have M.E. and on DLA. I applied to hees and received full grant - I had a new combi boiler (I had a very old boiler and hot water tank in the attic), had walls insulated and the attic was also insulated (topped up) and the old tank was removed, so it is worth applying.

    Thanks for comment TOBRUK.
yes hubby out of hosp Tuesday but needs looking after - had guy from heating/grant round yesterday and said we'd qualify for combi boiler etc too - plus insulation.
Next will be to the have instalation guys round to do a full assessment/costing.

One question though - I currently dry clothes on one of those pully airers above the logburner - how do you guys manage with just a boiler? Or is it just everything over radiators?

Hi 7roland8, so glad that you have had an assessor out who will pass all the information of what is needed over to the installers. Hopefully you won't need to wait long for the installation.

Have you got any radiators now? If not I suspect that they will install some.

I have a condenser tumble dryer and couldn't be without it.

Yes we already have radiators in every room so that should be ok. Seems they do the work up to £5000 and if there's money they even put oil in the tank!

Sister said when she had her heating changed they put a radiator in her airing cupboard to make up for the loss of the water tank (but she was paying for that herself). But I will ask.

Used to have am old tumble dryer but got rid of it - no need before and it used lots of power - still there's always a solution to everything if you think laterally.

  • Hiya - can't help re grants or anything , but we also have one of those pulley things. It's in the kitchen but not above the radiator or the aga. The room does tend to be the warmest in the house and the washing dries great (only problem is I need DH to raise and lower it for me!). As heat rises, as long as the room's reasonably warm you should have no problems.

Thanks ShockingPink - yes I'll leave the pulley there - and as you say I used to get son or someone to hoist it up - though with no fire I might not bother as we have a huge kitchen - mught even get another fitted as I fnd them great - much easier than back and fore down the garden to the line.
