Pain in the backside buyer

Hi all,

I sold a brand new camera body yesterday stating in the ad that it was brand new in box. Had 30 odd watchers and a flurry of bids in the last 30 seconds. The winning buyer had 1600+ feedback so I was quite happy except...

He then began a deluge of emails wanting to know when I bought it, why I am selling it, where it came from, was it opened, had I altered it, had I used it, did it come with a lens and if so, had I removed it, did I have the receipt and would I send that to him, else he wouldn't pay. I answered all of those questions, despite them being all clear in the listing and him already having won (do people not understand the concept of an auction?) He then said he would pay later today if I would definitely send the receipt. He has now just emailed to say sorry but he was buying it for a family member who has told him that it isn't the right camera so he won't buy it anymore and can I please request to withdraw from the auction so I can claim my fees and he won't get an unpaid item strike. So frustrating and such a waste of my time and he then wants me to cancel it so he doesn't lose out. Grrr buyers make me mad!

Let's hope the second chance offer I have made is accepted and the original buyer stops sending me annoying messages.

What a muppet! If you put it through as non payment would you get your fvfs back? I'd be very tempted to do that if someone messed about like that!

I would wait and open a non paying bidder - ive heard that excuse so many times before!

Even if you do a SCO you still have to pay the fees on the 1st sale as well as the 2nd sale, so you must reclaim your fees.

If you do a mutual it is risky as buyer can tick the wrong box, and he's already proved he shouldn't be trusted with a computer, the only guaranteed way to reclaim fees is a full NPB.

I wonder if he wanted the receipt for a warranty, or whether he intended to pull a fast one and try and return it to the shop? Or perhaps he was just a total thicky. Hopefully the second highest bidder is still interested - I know how frustrating it can be when a sale falls through.
