Quick Question - Building Control

Curious question
we're thinking of having an extension on the back of our property - the size etc means that it wont need planning permission, but will need a building notice
(total size 7.5sqm)
When it comes to the building inspector coming to the site - Do electrics need to have been completed by a Part P qualified electrician or can they be done by us as long as they are Part P compliant?
My hubby's dad is a qualified builder and is happy to build for free, so we only have trade cost of materials (as his mum works for a building merchants)
Thanks in advance!

There is nothing to stop you doing it yourself as long as they comply with the current regs. However, by the time you have got the council to inspect the work and issue you with a ticket, it will probably be cheaper to get an approved sparky to do it.
A colleague of mine had a right game trying to get his diy work approved by building control.0 -
Brill - thanks for this

Cherwell District Council actually come around within 48 hours of you calling them to inspect, which isn't too bad.
Eeek! All excited now!0
