Stopping an auction if goods are sold locally

How do you end a sale early if you advertise your goods locally and manage to get a sale that way, rather than through ebay?

I presume you would still pay the listing fee, but are there any cancellation charges due at all?

go to your selling items, next to the item you want to end, click on the drop down box and click on end item, If I sell off of ebay whilst the item is listed I normally then click on item no longer available.
You do still pay the listing fee but as far as I'm aware there is no cancellation fee :)
My first ever Ebay Challenge. So far after fees etc for 2007 - £635.72 :T

It is against ebay rules to do that and anyone bidding on the auction should report you for doing it. You must not offer an item for sale elsewhere while it is on eBay.

Auctions that say things like 'I reserve the right to withdraw this item as it is listed elsewhere' should be reported.

So long as you comply with ebay rules insofar as ending it before the remaining 12 hours then i see nothing wrong with ending the item early.

Its your item. Youve already paid ebay fees so they can get stuffed by claiming they have the right to the sellers fees should you get a better offer elsewhere.

Everyone withdraws items from ebay if they get better offers. its just another ridiculous rule from ebay to get more money out of us.

I didn't know those type of listings could be reported. In fact I've previously stated the same on one of my listings.

Ebay are fast becoming a dictatorship of do's and don'ts.

All you do is state "item no longer for sale" and what business is it of ebays if you pormptly sell it to someone else.

    Ebay is becoming a dictatorship.

Many rules I do agree with but that one is a classic example of ebay jus looking to make more money.

So if you list something on ebay then a friend or family member wants it you cant sell it or give it to them instead? Absolute nonsense.

I'd agree with the latter part of your post, but it's not unreasonable for ebay to insist that an item is not offered anywhere else whilst it's on ebay.

How else can they maintain the fiction that a bidder is entering into a binding contract with the seller if the seller may not even still be in posession of the item when the bidder bids?

You could not pull the same trick with a real auction.

When I see ' I reserve the right to withdraw this item as it is listed elsewhere'
I take it to mean - " If I'm not getting as much for the item as I think it's worth I'm not selling.

I tend towards thinking that as well. I wouldn't normally bother bidding on an auction that might be withdrawn, I wouldn't waste my time.
