Cheap train to London needed this Sunday

Due to my hubby having an accident and not being able to drive for a few weeks, we're looking for a cheap train fare to London. We want to leave Crewe around 9.00 am Sunday and return Tuesday around 4.00 pm. These times are flexible, 2 adults & 2 children. We've not got a rail card as we don't usually use trains, but will buy one if it means a cheap fare.
I've looked at rail website but it's coming up with a price of £156.
Please help, the alternative would be for me to drive!
Thanks

With a family railcard the fare comes down to £88.60 which, as the card costs £20, is a significant saving - you'll have to buy it at a staffed station as online applications take 3 working days0

Try phoning the station to ask about offers as the internet sites do not always show them.0

Another option might be to buy two tickets, ie: Crewe to Birmingham then Birmingham to London. Chiltern Railways used to do some very cheap tickets from Brum to London. You can buy all the tickets at Crewe and it's quite legal !0
