Thanks for the replies. I have notified them over the phone but of course the operator never gives their full name and later on if the insurance company claim I havn't cancelled, then I can't prove I did. Will have to write as well I suppose to make sure.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0

Yes I ask for the name but usually they will only give a first name which again doesn't prove anything.0

Do belt and braces and send written confirmation of your instructions, (use recorded delivery), and ask them to confirm receipt of your instructions.0

Using MCOL to go to court would cost more than just the £25 you quote.
The £25 is just for issuing the claim. To continue to a court hearing involves another £25 (for claims up to £300). And if you lose at court, that £50 is lost too, and you would have to pay the defendant's expenses, as well as all your own!
No.
£25 is the full amount, and it's very rare to pay the defendents expenses. If the company want to defend it, it's in a local court to you, not them, so well worth the cost.
(Just done it in fact, but not an insurance company, and won the online claim, so the £25 plus my other costs, was payable)0 -

You are wrong!
As previously posted, £25 is just the fee for issuing the claim.
Should a hearing be necessary that is another £25.
The loser always has to pay the winners expenses for attending the court!
(You say you just done it for £25. If so, then your defendant didn't dispute the claim, thus there was no hearing fee for you to pay, and why did you then have "other costs"?)0 -

I think you need to read the hmcs webpages.
(They also have a ccj on file against them now)0 -

No need for that.
I have explained the fee system:
1) You pay a fee to issue the claim (minimum is £25)
2) If the case then goes to a hearing, you must pay another minimum fee of £25 (The fees are on a sliding scale depending on the amount claimed).
3) At a hearing the loser pays the winners expenses for attending the hearing.
As previously posted, if your fees were just £25 in total, then you must have won a judgement by default against the defendant who presumably ignored your claim, and no hearing took place. (So how did you have "other costs" to claim as well?)0 -

Ironically, the other party explained the sytem to me as well, several times, at each stage when I offered them a chance to pay. :rotfl:0 -
What's wrong with auto-renewal? Someone remind me.0
-
Ummm.....Quote......seems like you have been living in a cave for a few years
My AA policy is up in 3 week's time. I think AA do auto renewal, I asked this when I changed car on the policy and the CS said yes at first that they auto renew then moments later say no they dont. Anyway my renewal letter hasn't arrived yet, it should do by next week. I've heard they have not sent renewal letter to others in the past and just the new renew policy turns up with payment taken.
Well, that isnt going to happen with me as I will not renew with them as I always get cheaper quote changing company each year with quidco cashback. Also I will cancel my card in case they do a sneeky one.0
