Cheap Car Hire

Hello,
Can anyone recommend where I can hire a car for a week over christmas?? I don't have UK insurance so not sure if this would be an issue or have an extra charge? There is a site called rentabanger.com, but not sure if this is still good value with easy care etc. out there in the market already. Is there a car hire comparison site to compare varying prices that anyone is aware of??
Thank you in advance.

Do you really want a banger over Christmas, I wouldn't.
Can you not borrow from a friend and pay for short term insurance?0 -
Well true, would rather have a car that was guaranteed not to break down!! Although I would hope they are still fairly reliable...
Not a car that I can be guaranteed to borrow for all 7 days that I am over unfortunately. Looked at short term insurance and it was £55/month which is quite a lot!0 -
It might help if you said what area your visiting and what your budget is for the rental?
A small car like a Fiesta would cost about £140 for the week from my local garage including insurance etc.0 -
Not really.Holidaygirl wrote: »Looked at short term insurance and it was £55/month which is quite a lot!
That's only £660 per year. Plenty of people paying that.
An equivalent yearly premium would be cheaper.
But you only want seven days insurance, not a month.
Try these people for a quote.
But if you cannot borrow a car, why not get the insurance from the hire company?0 -
Oh cool they look pretty good thank you Wealdrom, they need a bit more information, so going to get an actual registration number then fill in my details, may still be able to borrow a car for some of the 7 days so worth a look in.
Just seen rentabanger have terrible reviews with ripping people off and are being investigated by trading standards so won't be going to them!
Mark5 - I am going to be in the Uxbridge area in Middx if you know that? Budget is as cheap as possible as long as the car goes! £140 is not bad I guess?0
