I've been asked to contact my plumber to find out why the leak occured I have been trying to contact him for days but no reply...Why are my insurance asking me this?...It must have been a fast leak as it happened overnight...Sorry I sound thick as anything but I've never had to claim before...All help would be good THANX

It sounds as if you have no cover for trace and access for your pipework. (check your policy if you think you are covered).

Your policy should cover the damage caused by the leak, but maybe not the plumbing work needed to trace the leak and access the pipework.
  • Yes we had to pay the plumber which we have but now the insurance are asking what the problem was exactly with the pipework...Our house is 4 years old and we bought it brand new...I don't know why they are asking what the problem was...I got the plumber thru internet and have his mobile number only and no answer...what do I do?

You paid a plumber and now can't contact them?

Don't ever use people that just advertise with a mobile number. They are often a scam. If this is a scam, you could have lost your money, if the Police/Trading Standards don't get hold of them.

Why did you not just look in your local directory for emergency plumbers, with a local address and phone number ?

Phone your Insurers and ask to speak to the claims manager. Explain your full position and ask for their help. Surely they can help with getting a company out to help you. Of course at some point, you will need to get confirmation of the cause of the leak. Hopefully the plumber will turn up at some point.

  • He is still saying I have to sleep on the mattress as this is (in his opinion over the phone) DRY...I don't think it is it feels damp to me...I have to wait til wed til someone comes to assess the problem then writes a report...before they will act on anything...so that will be a week of sleeping in a wet room...I am really upset...
