Hi all sorry but this is a very doom and gloom message. My husband has left me , having just taken a car loan for himself knowing I had debt problems and couldnt take the pressure ! My father has just had his heart op and now they have found he has bowl cancer and it looks like my brother is about to be diagnoised with a rare auto immune disease !Life is just getting worse by the day.Dont know how much more I can take.
To cut a long story short I have 4 debts totally £21.000. All of my creditors except Mbna have been very helpful. So I was plodding along nicely managing to pay them . I changed my job so asked Mbna to move the payment date,no can do,but we did seem to arrange some form of monthly payment of £220 per month over the phone. I then put this in writing to them also. They replyed not really saying whether they agreed with the sum but that I had cleared my arrears and as long as I didnt default they were relatively happy ! I then had a letter of them saying the arrears letter was a mistake ! I have always paid them by cheque or cash and have found they have taken £220 out of my account without my authorisation. So I paid them twice this month. Can they do this ?They have left me with nothing. I will contact my bank and inform them that this mustnt happen again and write a stinking letter to Mbna and one to the Financial Ombs complaining. I cant be bothered phoning Mbna as they are a waste of time.I will never clear this debt and looking at selling my beloved car.
I am sat here crying as I know I will defauilt again next month because my payment will be a week late and incur defauilt charges and the letters phone calls will all start again. I was hoping to go and spend a day with my brother tomorrow but havent even got any money for fuel, and my brother is to ill to drive. Sorry life stinks:(

Hi roberts - I'm really sorry to hear what a tough time you are having at the moment.
A couple of things that might just make your debt issues a bit easier - have you ever written to MBNA and any other creditors to say all communication must be in writing and not to phone you anymore? if not that is worthwhile - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=11571485&postcount=4
No MBNA are not allowed to take unauthorised payments out of your account, you should contact the bank about this and tell them it is an unauthorised transaction. Does it show as a direct debit on the statement or something else?
If because of the change in circumstances (ie your husband leaving and presumably you now only having one income) you find you cannot meet your debt repayments it might be worth getting some advice from one of the debt charities such as CCCS. They should be able to adviseand recommend a solution for you, of course you won't be under any obligation to them but it can be really useful to talk things through.
It might also be useful for you to draw up a monthly statement of affairs for your new circumstances so you can get a feel for how much you can afford for debt repayments after paying out priority costs etc.
I hope that things improve for you and your family soon.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0

Good to hear MBNA starting to seem reasonable.
I know there are tips on carboots and beginners guides to using ebay on this forum which might be worth a look at and people will help you along with any things you struggle with in terms of PC use. I'm sure you can soon get the hang of it.
