Quote for re-grouting and repairing tiles

I have a bathroom which has a tiled floor and walls. The grout has come away between some of the floor tiles and I need it scraping out and re-doing.

I am also going to fit a new shower screen as the current one is fairly old and a bit shabby. However, because of the way the current screen was fitted by the previous owners of the house, it has cracked a couple of the tiles.

Therefore, before I embark on phoning around some tilers, I thought I'd ask the advice of the fellow MSE forum members.

What kind of price should I expect to pay for the following:-

1. Scrape out grout and regrout approximately 6 sq m of flooring (12.5" x 12.5" or 31.75cm x 31.75cm tiles)
2. Replace 2 damaged wall tiles.

Cheers!

p.s - I want the job done professionally and quickly therefore I want to outsource to a professional. I normally try these myself but I do not have the time at the moment and really need it done.

Depends how big the tiles are! If they are large floor tiles, there is alot less scraping out than if they are small ones. Assuming they are 12" x 12" tiles, its probaby no more than a mornings work that. Allow £100 inc materials.

Yep - probably should have said they were 12.5" x 12.5" tiles on the floor. Will edit original post.

    Thanks.

You should really be addressing why the grout has come out of the floor tiles before simply re grouting, assuming it's movement it will just continue to happen.

I used to hate these jobs and would often refuse them, you can easily open a can of worms which then becomes your problem.

Don't be surprised to find people unwilling to do this.

I concur - sounds like movement to me too.

I was told that it could have been due to wall grout being used on the floor (if there's a difference). Surely there can be some small movement on the floor as it is a first floor so not concrete?

I agree with Alan M and keystone, its almost always the deflection/movement of a timber floor that causes the grout to crack - how long have they been down? do you know how the original floor was prepared prior to tiling (cement boards/ply overboard)
